Floorcheck is a free, non-commercial Chrome extension. It has no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and it does not sell or share data. The extension stores nothing on your device. As for every extension, the Chrome Web Store shows its developer anonymous totals, such as the number of installs; Floorcheck itself collects no usage statistics.

What the extension reads

Only when you press “Scan lineup”, it reads the event page open in the active tab. For most websites Chrome asks for your permission the first time you scan one. It does not read other tabs, your browsing history or cookies. If the lineup is only a picture, the picture’s text is recognised inside the extension; the picture is not sent to the Floorcheck server.

What is sent to the Floorcheck server

Details of that one event: the page’s address, title, venue, city, date, series or promoter, the lineup’s names (with notes such as “live”, and which of them link to an artist profile), room names, genres, the event description, and SoundCloud links on the page. If you use “Add manually”, the text you typed. The server uses them to find recordings of the lineup’s artists on SoundCloud and sends back a list of them.

What the server keeps

Not the event or your request: they are discarded once the answer is sent. The server’s log notes the event’s title and venue, the names it looked up, and any errors; the log is kept by the hosting provider for its usual log period. To limit how often one client can scan, your IP address is held in the server’s memory for about 24 hours and never written to disk. The server runs on Railway (Railway Corporation, USA), which processes technical data (IP address, time of request) to deliver it.

Reports (beta)

During the beta, the server holds each scan in memory for up to an hour so that a report can refer to it. If you press “Report”, the server stores the event’s facts (page address, title, venue, city, date, lineup, rooms), the recordings it returned, and the comment you typed, so the result can be checked. Not the page’s text or your IP address. A report is deleted once reviewed, at the latest after 90 days.

SoundCloud

Results are played in SoundCloud’s own player. When the players are shown (and while a scan runs, when one player is loaded ahead), your browser connects to SoundCloud, which receives your IP address and may set cookies under its own privacy policy: soundcloud.com/pages/privacy. The Floorcheck server searches SoundCloud’s API with the lineup’s names; SoundCloud does not get your IP address from these searches.

Legal basis and your rights

Processing is needed to provide the scan you ask for and to protect the service from abuse (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). You may ask for access, correction or deletion, object to processing, and complain to a data protection authority. Contact: milkschorle@gmail.com.
